IHU 120-hour TESOL Course

IHU TESOL team, as a part of Ibn Haldun University, is a group of professional trainers with many years of experience and reliable qualifications. 120-hour TESOL course is designed and delivered by the team both face-to-face on the IHU Campus and online. The certificate is approved by The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) in Turkey which can pave the way for finding a job in the countries such as it.

Dr. Jaber Kamali

TESOL Director

Jaber Kamali, Ph.D., is a lecturer at Ibn Haldun University, Istanbul, Turkey. He is a DELTA holder from Cambridge University and has been training second language teachers since 2007. He is serving as an Ibn Haldun University Teacher Training Center Coordinator where he leads and manages different second language teacher training courses such as TESOL. Having published several articles in leading ELT journals, he is among the top-cited authors of Wiley publication in 2020-21. His fields of interest are teacher education, classroom discourse, and interactional competence.

Mahmoud Dahman

TESOL Lead Trainer

Mahmoud Dahman is currently an in-house trainer, CPD coordinator, and EFL instructor and at Ibn Haldun University. He's a CELTA and DELTA holder and a Cambridge CELTA trainer. He has received his Bachelor' Degree in English Language and Literature and a Master’s Degree in Linguistics from the University of Aleppo.

Montaser Jassouma

TESOL Trainer

Montaser earned his B.A. in English Literature and Language and an M.A. in TESOL from the University of Aleppo. Montaser has been working in Istanbul as an ESL/EAP instructor since 2012 for various universities as Bogazici, Sehir and Aydin Universities. Furthermore, he has the DELTA and the Train the Trainer Course from Cambridge Assessment. Along with teaching EAP, Montaser is now holding the position of a Coordinator of English Department and a TEFL trainer at Ibn Haldun University.

Alena Petrova

TESOL Assistant Trainer

Alena Petrova is in her 16th year of working in the EFL industry and has worked with students of different nationalities, age groups and levels teaching General English, Business English and ESP. For 6 years, she worked as Director of Studies, teacher trainer and training supervisor. She is also a freelance author of ELT materials for online platforms.

Jeyhoon Mansomuv

TESOL Assistant Trainer

Jeyhun Mansumov has been teaching English, including IELTS, TOEFL, and EAP since 2008. He did his Bachelor’s degree in linguistics. After passing TKT Modules 1,2,3 in 2014, he completed CELTA in 2016 and DELTA Modules 1 and 2 in 2021. In 2017, he designed a Pre-CELTA course for novice teachers who aim to develop professionally and attend CELTA and TESOL. In the last four Pre-CELTA courses, about 45-50 teachers have completed the program successfully. Currently, Jeyhun is an EAP Instructor at Ibn Haldun University.

Dr. Yassamin Pouriran

TESOL Assistant Trainer

Yassamin Pouriran completed her PhD from UPM University in TESL in Malaysia. She has more than 20 years of teaching experience at different universities and Language Schools in Iran, Malaysia, and Turkey. Also, she has taught English for IELTS and TOEFL candidates in Iran and Malaysia. She has been teaching English at Ibn Haldun University in Turkey since 2018. Her teaching interests include Classroom Discourse, Oral and Written Corrective Feedback, and Professional Development. She is currently doing a DELTA course at ITI Istanbul in Turkey. 

Maria Eleni Kouklaki

TESOL Assistant Trainer

Maria Eleni Kouklaki is an English Instructor in the School of Languages of Ibn Haldun University where she teaches EAP. She holds an MA in Applied Linguistics from Victoria University of Wellington. She has taught in Greece, New Zealand, and Turkey. She is interested in teaching and learning vocabulary techniques.

Sarra Dehimi

TESOL Assistant Trainer

Sara Dehimi is an English instructor and a level coordinator at Ibn Haldun University. She has been an EFL teacher for about 12 years. She holds CELTA certificate, and is currently an MA candidate working on her thesis on the use of technology in EFL classrooms. She has previously planned and delivered workshop series as a part of a teacher training programme. Curriculum design and material development are among her fields of interest.

Tannaz Zand

TESOL Assistant Trainer

Tannaz Zand is an experienced English language instructor currently working at Ibn Haldun university school of languages. She holds an “MA in TEFL” and a “Delta module two certificate”. At the moment, her goal is to contribute to improving the standards of professional language teaching as a teacher trainer.

These are the most frequent questions about IHU TESOL course

1.     WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR TESOL COURSE?

People with no previous teaching experience - the course provides you with the basic tools and techniques you will need for teaching English as a foreign language people with some teaching experience - although the course is a pre-service course, we have many applicants who have some classroom experience. For those people, the TESOL helps to refine some of the teaching skills they already have as well as introducing them to new ideas and techniques.

2.     WHAT KIND OF PROGRAMMES ARE AVAILABLE?

Full-time face-to-face courses - Fridays, Saturdays - all day (5 weeks)

Full-time online courses - (10 days)

3.     HOW MANY CERTIFICATES DO I RECEIVE AT THE END OF THE COURSE?

2. One of them is your TESOL certificate from Ibn Haldun University with your grade. The other one is the band descriptor.

4.     CAN I FIND A TEACHING JOB IN OTHER COUNTRIES WITH THIS CERTIFICATE?

Definitely yes. But don't forget this is ONE of the qualifications. Some organizations need some post-certificate experience. So, it is highly recommended to do the course in your earliest convenience.

5.     IS THERE ANY FAIL IN THE COURSE?

The course is fully developmental and we try to help all candidates to pass with high scores but there are for sure some standards candidates should meet.

6.     WHAT DO ASSIGNEMENTS INVOLVE?

It involves general and focused observations, final exam and teaching practice.

7.     WHAT DOES IN-CLASS MODULE INVOLVE?

Although it can be tailor-made for different groups of candidates, it has some basics including teaching skills and subskills, classroom management, and the like.

8.     HOW OFTEN IS TESOL COURSE HELD?

Four times a year.
